This is a fragment of our new product’s front panel.

The picture shows the word “Battery” and three LED lights right below it indicating battery voltage. Right below the battery voltage indicator we see a shiny switch that moves from left to right. This is the product’s power switch. It will have three positions: “Left”, “Middle” and “Right”.

You may be asking yourself: Why does the power switch need three positions? Power could either be “ON” or “OFF”. That’s two positions. Why do you need the third one?”

We are taking CEntrance to new heights and I need to improve my leadership capacity. This week I started a new personal challenge.

The challenge is part of a leadership class I’ve enrolled in. We were given an assignment to challenge ourselves this week.

Everyone picks something that’s important to them. Some people pick their health, others their personal life. I picked CEntrance, a topic near and dear to my heart.

PLEASE READ MORE HERE - on our New Portable Product Blog

More from Michael Goodman & our New Portable Product Blog (he's on fire): Selecting the DAC Chip

More from Michael Goodman & our New Portable Product Blog (he's on fire): Selecting the DAC Chip:

One of the biggest design challenges with our new product is the selection of the Digital to Analog Converter (DAC) chip. By now you probably guessed that our new portable product is a digital audio device, so it’s natural to expect that it will have a DAC inside.

Yes, it’s a portable DAC product. And yes: It will feature high quality sound because it comes from CEntrance. But so is our DACport. What’s so different about the new product?

PLEASE READ MORE HERE on our New Portable Product Blog

Zen and the Art of Asynchronous Interfacing

Zen and the Art of Asynchronous Interfacing:

CEntrance is a design firm. We know how to design digital audio products. By now we’ve worked with so much technology that we’ve become “technologically agnostic.”

This means that we don’t care which chip, component or technology buzzword is used in a circuit. As long as it’s used correctly the circuit will work. If it’s used in the wrong fashion, the circuit will not work. This reminds me of an episode from my college days.

Back in the days of transistor technology one of my electronics teachers had a saying:

If a circuit is drawn well, it will work, no matter what transistors you put in.

While I’m working client relationships in Australia our team in Chicago has received the next generation PCBs for our portable product! We are very excited to say the least. We’ve been waiting for these parts for a long time.

Thus far, only the digital PCB has been made. As we mentioned before: Our new portable product will feature the most complex technology we’ve ever undertaken.

Here’s his comment on our MicPort Pro:

“Used the MicPort Pro in doing a remote interview for my radio show last week, in conjunction with an SM 7 and my Macbook running Logic.
CEntrance is moving forward with its plans to release the new portable audio product in October. We will use the Rocky Mountain Audio Fest as the venue for the release. It will be a great celebration, and you are invited to celebrate with us!

We promised that this blog will be unveiling the details of the new CEntrance audio product as we prepare for the introduction at CAN-JAM in Denver. The fact that our new product is an “audio product” is not a novelty — audio is ALL we do, so that’s pretty obvious. However, the fact that it has a battery is new.

There, we said it — CEntrance is working on a battery-powered audio product! How exciting! We hope this wets your appetite.

Anyone who might have read any of my recent articles here detailing my experiences with creating a low-cost, computer-based audio system has probably picked up on my new mantra, which, distilled into its most basic form is, essentially: Just enjoy the music! And that’s basically what I’ve been doing—not fretting over technical details, not imagining how great things could be if only—I’ve really, sincerely, been spending a whole lot of time listening to a whole lotta music, and seriously enjoying my system’s synergies and surprisingly good performance level.

“CEntrance’s Audiophile Desktop System is what I’d take if I were to live in downtown Osaka. OR if I were to head back to the UK for an extended vacation. OR if I needed a quick-quality setup at work. OR a hotel room. OR at a friend’s place. OR if I needed a hi-fi up and running in a jiffy in new digs. With the A.D.S. one can take a GREAT sound into the nooks and crannies of the world with ease – for these are the places that need it most. Hats off!”

The CEntrance DACport LX seems to fly in the face of audiophile tradition and expectation. It is not overly large or heavy. It doesn’t have a half-inch thick, brushed aluminum faceplate or rare, exotic materials. It doesn’t possess any mysterious newfangled take on the world of physics. It doesn’t have a power supply big enough to operate industrial power tools. What it does have, based on a couple months of daily listening, is some solid, sound engineering. In other words, this little thing works, and works well.
